when I was in the 3rd (or maybe 4th…?) grade and I got to paint with Dale Chihuly. He was so awesome. He came to my elementary school (Laurelhurst) and all the kids went down to the gym/art areas to paint. Some of us got to paint with him. We had these gigantic canvases and were told to do whatever we wanted with them. I remember him telling me to really get in there & not be scared of the paint lol.
I had the painting til I was about 14 & then I threw it away (I’m a moron) because it was a huge canvas, taking up a lot of space, and I was annoyed by it. It was stashed away in my closet and at the time I guess I felt like it carried no meaning.
Thinking of it now I can’t believe I discarded it so easily. It was a pretty dark painting. Pretty much all black, with muddy red and specks of silver. It was wicked abstract, and every time you looked at it you could spot something new. I really regret throwing it away. It wasn’t beautiful or anything, but it was still special. Oh well.
